Review: It Cosmetics - Discover It Kit

With my ever-growing obsession with It Cosmetics' Bye Bye Redness (see what I had to say in my previous post), I thought I would give a couple of their other products a try. Rather then drop some major dough and purchase the full-size versions, which almost certainly would have gotten me in trouble with the Mr., I found this little nugget. It is called the Discover it Kit and it can only be found in-stores at Ulta. For nineteen smackaroos you get three of their best-sellers: the Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil, Bye Bye Undereye Anti-Aging Concealer and the Hello Lashes Clinically Proven 5-in-1 Mascara. Also included is a booklet showcasing all of the It Cosmetics line, which might I add, you should throw in the garbage immediately or risk wanting to buy everything! Should I be embarrassed that their marketing ploy totally worked on me? Ah pretty shiny things get me every time!

Purchase for $19 at Ulta

Upon opening the box, the first thing I noticed was the size of the products. They were little itty bitty things and as any girl can tell ya, that is not the first thing you want to see when you unwrap a package. Nevertheless, I pushed through hoping that this time, size wouldn't matter. The second thing that caught my eye was the quality of the packaging. With the exception of the concealer, which just comes in a squeeze tube (although a sleek looking one), the mascara and brow pencil surprising come in really high end packaging.

The cap of the mascara has a squishy, foamy grip on it, much like you would see on a fancy pen or something. Now, is this really necessary? No, it's not like it takes that long to apply mascara that you need a padded grip, but it does look cool! The Brow Power comes in a double ended pencil which has some weight to it and a metallic finish. On one end is your retractable pencil and on the other is your spoolie.

All three full-size products retail for $24 each

The first product I applied was the Bye Bye Undereye Concealer. I kind of love this stuff! A very little bit of this goes a long way. I squeezed a small amount onto the back of my hand and used my finger to dab it around the undereye area and on my eyelid. It is on the thicker side but surprisingly I didn't have an issue with it creasing. I don't have major undereye circles but those of you who do, would find that this will cover them up without a problem. The color that comes in the kit is neutral medium. Since I am on the Casper-ish side, I think I will purchase it in light when I go to grab the full-size version (sorry honey, it's gonna happen!).

The Hello Lashes Mascara was my next victim and sadly I can't say that I was too impressed with it. The formula was thin and did very little to beef up my lashes. In fact, since I have long lashes to begin with, I found that it made my lashes look spidery. It wasn't the worst mascara ever, but it was far from the best and for the money? Not something I would purchase! The one positive about it was that the wand did do a good job at separating my lashes. I'll probably use this over my normal mascara for this purpose until I run out of it.

Last up was the Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil. I'm on the fence about this one. While it did get the job done, it just doesn't compare to my fave. The consistency of it was pretty creamy and easy to apply, but I found that when I outlined my brows with it, the parts that were directly on the skin looked too light and rubbed off too easily. Part of what I like about the Anastasia Brow Wiz is that I can draw on my arch and fill in the tail of my brows, since the hair in these areas is sparse. Also, not really sure how this shade is supposed to be universal. I guess you can make it work for you depending on if you apply it with a light or heavy hand, but I don't think it would work too well for blondes or redheads. Finally the spoolie - oh you poor fat little spoolie. It really must suck to be inferior to Mr. Wiz. It was just too big and the bristles weren't dense enough to really grab the hairs and run the product through.

Before and after using all three products

In the end, I'm glad I purchased this little set. I am definitely going to pick up the Bye Bye Undereye Concealer, although I don't think I can totally say goodbye to my Benefit Fake Up. Sadly the rest of the products are going to be a pass for me.

Have you tried any of the other items off the It Cosmetics line? Want me to review one in particular? Tell me about it in the comments section!
